The majority are also part of Multi-Academy Trusts - chains of individual academies that make up the trusts.

Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) have their own Chief Financial Officers, Boards of Trustees and Governors and other officials with over-arching responsibility for budgets, policy and development at the MAT level.

Each individual academy receives its own annual grant from the DfE and much of this continues to be spent at local school level. However, MATs can also "pool" some budgets and resources across the trust as a whole - giving them immense buying power.
